This month, hear “Le Tombeau de Couperin” by Maurice Ravel, from the Penns Woods Music Festival; a sonata for clarinet and piano by Marion Bauer from a faculty recital; The Penn State Glee Club singing Franz Biebl’s “Ave Maria” and “Elegy for a Young American,” written in tribute to President John F. Kennedy by Ronald Lo Presti and played by the Penn State Symphonic Band.

This month, hear PSU faculty pianist Christopher Guzman playing Chopin in recital; Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat, from the Penn's Woods Music Festival; and a prelude and fugue by Bach arranged by Mozart played with period performance practices by members of the Penn State Baroque Ensemble.

This month, hear PSU faculty flutist Naomi Seidman with the Penns Woods Music Festival Orchestra, led by Gerardo Edelstein, in a flute concerto by Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach; two pieces by Margaret Bonds, arranged for solo piano and performed by Lara Downes: “Credo No. 2” and “Troubled Water;” And the Violin Sonata in G Minor by Laura Valbourg Aulin, played by Penn State professors James Lyon, violin and Timothy Shafer, piano.

This month, hear music by 20th century Russian composer Marina Dranishnikova, played by Penn State faculty members Andreas Oeste, oboe & Melody Quah, piano; “Hark, I hear the harps eternal,” a traditional hymn arranged by Alice Parker and performed by Penn State’s Oriana Singers, directed by Jane Glocke; And pianist Melody Quah as soloist in Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Penns Woods Music Festival Orchestra, conducted by Gerardo Edelstein.

This month, hear the Penn State Chamber Orchestra play Claude Debussy’s “Petite Suite,” as orchestrated by Henri Büsser; PSU faculty trombonist Mark Lusk, with pianist Kathy Gattuso Cinatl in a transcription of Beethoven’s song cycle, “An die ferne Geliebte” or “To the Distant Beloved”; a song by American composer Amy Beach; And the Penn State Philharmonic in “Capriccio espagnole” by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Both PSU orchestras are conducted by Penn State faculty member Gerardo Edelstein.

This month, hear James Cameron Dennis, one of the winners of the 2022 Penn State Orchestra Concerto Competition, playing the first movement of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Then enjoy music by two African American women: “I Dream a World” by Rosephanye Powell, sung by Essence of Joy; And, from the 2022 Penns Woods Music Festival, the Piano Quintet in A Minor by Florence Price.
