Health Minute: Drug and Alcohol Facts Week

Health Minute logo

WPSU’s Health Minute is a collaboration with Penn State’s Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing.

March 21st to 27th is National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week.

Substance use and domestic violence often occur together. An abuser who uses substances may be more violent, more likely to re-offend, or may force their partner to participate in substance use. Survivors of domestic violence may use substances as a coping mechanism.

Substance use can make it harder to find help by limiting access to resources or creating tension with law enforcement.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use or domestic violence, visit the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration at samhsa.gov or visit the National Domestic Violence Hotline at thehotline.org.

Cheraine Stanford is the Content Strategy Director at WPSU, responsible for developing the station's original productions across digital, radio and television.
