Penn State updated its COVID-19 dashboard Tuesday with data reported between Friday, Aug. 28 and Sunday, Aug. 30. In that time period, 25 University Park campus students tested positive out of 268 symptomatic tests conducted. Seven asymptomatic UP students also tested positive for COVID-19.
The university also reported 10 additional positive results from tests conducted during the week of Aug. 21-27. Seven University Park campus students, five of them asymptomatic, were added to the dashboard.
The Behrend campus in Erie, which reported one positive case last week, also added two additional positive results. Penn State Schuylkill reported one positive last week as well.
That brings the total positive cases to 73 university-wide. Penn State said it has performed a total of 6,632 tests since Aug. 7. There are 23 students in isolation on campus and 26 in quarantine.
Among the 1,063 asymptomatic surveillance tests done on University Park students between last Friday and Sunday, 903 are negative and 153 more are awaiting results. Data on employee testing has not been updated on the dashboardsince last Friday.
“While we are seeing an uptick in the symptomatic positive numbers, this data reflects that our system is working as symptomatic students are seeking testing at University Health Services and we are reaching people through our contact tracing process,” Penn State President Eric Barron said in a release.
“This is a critical time,” Barron said. “It’s vital that students do not travel over the Labor Day holiday weekend or at other times, whenever possible, so they do not contract the coronavirus elsewhere and bring it back to our campus communities. Students also are strongly urged to not host out-of-town guests, who, unbeknownst to them, may be infected.”
Penn State said, moving forward, the university will update the dashboard on Tuesdays and Fridays.
