This week Atlanta band Deerhunter announced its forthcoming seventh album, Fading Frontier, and released its first single and video, the swaggering "Snakeskin." The new album is a polished, propulsive turn for the group, fronted by eccentric and charismatic lead singer Bradford Cox.
Five years ago, Deerhunter was just putting out Halcyon Digest, its fifth album, and first since 2008. The band's lineup had changed several times in the preceding two years, and its core four members were just back from a hiatus during which they worked on and released solo projects. In October, Deerhunter played a set at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, and All Songs was on hand to record the whole thing. Cox in particular is known for his onstage antics, particularly in regards to costume and makeup, and that night Robin called the show "thrilling."
