President Obama heads to Jamaica today for a visit with the prime minister and Caribbean leaders. This visit comes as the U.S. is normalizing relations with Cuba, and could mean increased cooperation between the U.S. and the Caribbean.
But Cuba isn’t the main focus of Jamaicans and others. Jamaican leaders are happy that the president is expected to indicate his strong support for the work being undertaken by the Jamaican government to reform the country’s economy under the International Monetary Fund.
Damion Blake, a professor of political science at Elon University in North Carolina, discusses the president’s visit with Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson.
