Several counties including Centre, Cambria and Warren added new fatalities from COVID-19 Tuesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Centre County has reported its second death and now has 77 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Cambria County has also reported a second death and Warren County has its first death today. These are among the 360 new deaths reported Tuesday, bringing the statewide total deaths to 1,564.
Pennsylvania now has 34,528 positive cases of COVID-19, while 132,323 have tested negative for the novel coronavirus. Governor Tom Wolf yesterday announced the statewide stay-at-home order would extend to May 8, but online sales of vehicles and curbside pickup of wine and spirits at some locations would restart. Construction will be allowed to resume statewide on May 8.
SCI Huntingdon, which employs 650 people, is reporting that four employees have tested positive for the coronavirus. The Department of Corrections said the numbers are self-reported by employees and those who tested positive are told to stay off work.
One inmate at SCI Huntingdon has tested positive and one has tested negative so far. SCIs have plans in place to quarantine inmates who test positive for the coronavirus, according to the DOC.
The department said it’s taken mitigation measures inside correctional facilities and has reduced prison populations whenever possible. Governor Wolf signed an order on April 10 to give reprieves to some inmates.
