Professor Gong Chen, the Verne Willaman Chair of Life Sciences at Penn State

When the brain is harmed by injury or disease, neurons die or degenerate.  A Penn State researcher has developed an innovative technology for regenerating functional neurons—-that may help victims of traumatic brain injuries, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurologic disorders.  It’s a breakthrough in the long journey toward brain repair.    Penn State's  Gong Chen, a professor of biology and the Verne Willaman Chair in the Life Sciences, is involved in some of the most exciting work in the field of brain repair research—with the dream of discovering an effective treatment for Alzheimer’s disease in his lifetime.

Patty Satalia was a senior producer/host for WPSU-TV and FM from 1987 to 2017. Prior to joining Penn State Public Broadcasting, she worked in commercial television in Pittsburgh, first as a film editor and fill-in capsule news anchor for WPGH-TV, and later, for WPTT-TV as public affairs director and co-host of the talk-show, People, Places and Things.
