When the brain is harmed by injury or disease, neurons die or degenerate. A Penn State researcher has developed an innovative technology for regenerating functional neurons—-that may help victims of traumatic brain injuries, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurologic disorders. It’s a breakthrough in the long journey toward brain repair. Penn State's Gong Chen, a professor of biology and the Verne Willaman Chair in the Life Sciences, is involved in some of the most exciting work in the field of brain repair research—with the dream of discovering an effective treatment for Alzheimer’s disease in his lifetime.
