Health Minute: Bladder Health

Health Minute logo

WPSU’s Health Minute is a collaboration with Penn State’s Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing.

Now is the time to take an active role in your urinary health.

Your bladder helps to flush extra fluid and waste from your body. A lack of urinary health can lead to infection, incontinence, and even cancer.

According to the National Institutes of Health, more than half of women will experience a Urinary Tract Infection, or UTI, in their lifetime.

To keep your bladder healthy, drink plenty of water. Limit bladder irritants such as caffeine and alcohol. Avoid “holding it” and ensure you empty your bladder completely when you go. Quit smoking, because tobacco is the strongest risk factor for bladder cancer.
