Jackie Shane emerged in the Toronto nightclub scene in the 1960s as an American drag performer and soul singer. She toured around the U.S., studied with Little Richard and performed with the likes of Etta James. Then, in 1971, she disappeared.
Amid the release of a box set of Shane’s recordings, Here & Now‘s Robin Young talks with New York Times reporter Reggie Ugwu (@uugwuu), who managed to interview Shane for the first time in more than 40 years.
