The Folk Show Road Show is a monthly series dedicated to live music heard at venues in Central and North Central PA. As we often do, we feature two different concerts recorded at two different venues in this broadcast. In the second hour we’ll take you to the Zydney family home in State College to hear one of the most respected and experienced songwriter and performer in the Folk world, Jack Williams. But first, we head to Mifflinburg, Union County, on a chilly November evening in 2013. The setting is the historic Elias Church, perhaps the oldest wood-frame church in Pennsylvania. The natural materials in the beautifully restored 19th Century building create warm acoustics as Linda Littleton and Karen Hirson of Simple Gifts play their signature tune to an audience seated on old wooden pews.
The second hour of the broadcast features a concert in the Zydney family home in State College. WPSU weekend Folk Show host Laurel and her husband Andrew have bin hosting a house concert series for several years, and their regular patrons have come to rely Laurel’s ability to arrange performances by some of best touring folk musicians. Jack Williams certainly fits that definition.
