Thousands drive down North Atherton Street every day in hopes that they will no longer have to deal with the construction that started in 2015.

According to Marla Fannin, PennDOT Press Officer for District 2, the end could be in sight in June 2020.

Fannin said the construction will be on pause during the colder months.

“Work is winding down for 2019. So by Thanksgiving we’ll be in winter shut down for the project and we’ll be back in there in the Spring of 2020," said Fannin. PennDOT held a press conference Wednesday at the intersection of Park Avenue and North Atherton Street.

However, before Thanksgiving, there will be a few more Penn State home football games when the traffic flow will have to be controlled on North Atherton Street.

“You get a lot of traffic out there for football weekends and people trying to get places where they can park and the fact that we’ve also had some lane restrictions it’s been compounded, the delay problem,” Fannin said.

Fannin said PennDOT knows the project has taken a long time and thanked the community for their patience.
