Penn State graduate and retired U.S. Army Major Shawn Morelli took up cycling after an explosion during her service in Afghanistan caused brain trauma, blindness in her left eye and severe damage to her spine and neck.
Since her first competition in 2010, Morelli has broken cycling world records and racked up several wins in the sport, including world championship titles, and in 2016, two gold medals at the Paralympic games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. But her journey to these achievements has not been without challenges, and she spends time sharing her story in hopes of encouraging others to set goals and push through obstacles.
