You’re listening to WPSU’s Health Minute, a collaboration with Penn State’s College of Nursing.
In 2018, there were over 2 million poisonings reported across the United States. That equals one every 15 seconds.
Most poisonings occur in children under the age of six. The most common culprits are liquid nicotine from e-cigarettes, cosmetics, laundry pods and cleaning products, and pain medications.
If you or a loved one has ingested any foreign object or chemical, please call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 and they will help you seek the appropriate medical attention. You can find more information about Poison Control at poison.org.
