According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ of the body and causes diseases like cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Nicotine addiction makes it hard to quit. But once you do, your risk for smoking-related diseases goes down and you can add years to your life.
Starting today, set a date to quit. Investigate medications like a patch, gum or inhaler that can help with withdrawal symptoms. The best chance of quitting for good is using counseling and medication together.
