Health Minute: Vitamin D

Health Minute logo

WPSU’s Health Minute is a collaboration with Penn State’s Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing.

When we enjoy the outdoors during spring and summer, we’re also supplying our body with the necessary health benefits of Vitamin D.

Since Vitamin D is only found in fortified foods, certain fish, and in natural sunlight, it's important that we get outdoors to capture its benefits while also practicing sun safety.

Vitamin D provides important benefits including absorption of calcium for bone health, anti-inflammatory and immune system support, and neurological and muscle health.

Vitamin D requirements can be unique for everyone and depend on factors like where you live, age, lifestyle, and skin-color. Be sure to consult a health care provider for your specific needs. More information can be found at Mayo Clinic.
