Community members can ask questions and weigh in with their opinions on the State College Area Connector, a proposed state project to upgrade, replace or realign the largely 2-lane section of U.S. Route 322 that runs between Potters Mills and Boalsburg in Centre County.

PennDOT is holding an open house 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Boalsburg to present information, answer questions and get feedback on the project, which is expected to cost $670 million.

“We just want people to come, take a look at it, look at the alternatives, look at our impact tables. We’re looking for input just to make sure we got our data correct, so we can take a more detailed look at the alignments and see which alternatives we want to move forward to in the next phase," said Dean Ball, project manager and assistant district executive for design in PennDOT Engineering District 2.

Options under review include upgrading or building a new Route 322 between Potters Mills and Boalsburg; or constructing a new Route 144 corridor. Information at the meeting will include tables showing the impacts of those options on forests, farms, natural resources and private property.

Construction on the State College Area Connector project could begin in the early 2030s.

PennDOT spokeswoman Marla Fannin said members of the public can drop by any time.

“We want them to come, see those displays, ask questions and more than anything fill out a comment card or send comment cards in to us," Fannin said.

If you can’t make it to the open house, you can find out more about the project and submit comments online on the State College Area Connector website.
