Oklahoma Town Holds On To Its Past With Blackberry Festival

The Blackberry Festival kicks off Friday in McLoud, Oklahoma, a town that President Harry Truman once called the “blackberry capital of the world.” But in recent decades, the blackberry boom has subsided and many farms in and around McLoud have closed or turned to other crops.

Here & Now‘s Robin Young speaks with Glenda Kuhn, president of the McLoud Historical Society, about the town’s ups and downs through its blackberry industry.
