Audio note: This segment contains stories from members of the military that may be disturbing to some listeners.

On the radio segment and podcast “Incoming,” anecdote is transformed into art. The program, which is produced by KPBS and the literary and performing arts non-profit So Say We All, features veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan telling their stories, underscored by music.

As host Justin Hudnall told Here & Now’s Robin Young, “Incoming” benefits not only those who have served in the military, but those who have not.

“We think it’s really healing for civilians to be able to finally connect to that 1 percent that shoulders all of this burden that we’ve asked them to carry for us,” Hudnall said.
