Federal officials are investigating a deadly train crash outside New York City on one of the country’s busiest commuter rail roads.

A packed Metro-North train crashed into a car stopped on the tracks in Valhalla, New York, yesterday, pushing the car way down the tracks, lifting the electrified third rail, causing a fire. Six people are dead and 15 have been injured.

Metro-North has been under scrutiny for its safety record in the past.

Stephen Nessen from WNYC in New York joins Here & Now‘s Robin Young to tell us more.
