A few months ago, Daniel Klein bought two flags to hang on a chainlink fence outside his home in rural Wyoming County.

They say “Trump 2020: No More Bulls---.”

Some people driving along wooded Route 29 stop to take pictures. Some blow their horns.

“I don’t know whether they’re throwing me the bird or saying, ‘Good job,’ but I don’t care,” Klein said.

(Pittston) — The candidates seeking to replace former GOP Congressman Tom Marino clashed multiple times during a debate Thursday evening.

“Shame on you, Fred Keller,” Democrat Marc Friedenberg said at one point in the debate while talking about Russian interference in the 2016 election. At another point, Friedenberg called one of Keller’s criticism of him “pathetic.”

The Centre County Board of Elections says it cannot create a “Satellite Elections Office” in the HUB-Robeson Center on Penn State’s campus this month.

The Centre County League of Women Voters along with Penn State’s Vice President for Student Affairs and student government leaders, had signed a letter to the Board of Elections supporting the office.

Many Penn State students will leave campus just weeks before the municipal primary and 12th district U.S. House special election on May 21.

If they’re registered in Centre County, they’ll have to vote absentee if they vote at all.

“The absentee process is cumbersome. As a student said to me, ‘I don’t even know where the post office is,’” said Laura Brown, a Centre County League of Women Voters member.

Pennsylvania’s 12th district special election will be held May 21, the same day as the municipal primaries. It’s just weeks after Penn State students will have left for summer break.

Democratic candidate Marc Friedenberg says the timing of the election means most college students will have to vote absentee if they vote at all.

“We’re going to be pushing in helping students to navigate the absentee ballot process, which can be a little bit tricky,” Friedenberg said.

In Tuesday's midterm elections, incumbents including Gov. Tom Wolf, U.S. Senator Bob Casey and Congressmen Tom Marino and Glenn Thompson were reelected.

Democratic Governor Tom Wolf has won a second term, along with running mate John Fetterman. U.S. Senator Bob Casey also won re-election for a third term, beating Republican U.S. Representative Lou Barletta, who was supported by President Trump. The two races were called early on in the evening.

The possibility of higher than average voter turnout for a midterm, an increase in the number of women representing Pennsylvania and a match-up of two incumbents running for the same seat are some of the topics WPSU talks about with Terry Madonna leading in to the 2018 election. Susan Werner, chair of the Centre County League of Women Voters candidates’ night, is disappointed. She said she reached out to U.S. Rep. Tom Marino’s office about scheduling a forum with him and his Democratic opponent, Marc Friedenberg, but couldn’t get a commitment.

“I think that candidates’ night is a great opportunity for the public to come and ask questions that they want answers to, and he seems to be avoiding that,” Werner said.

The League of Women Voters in the Lewisburg area faced a similar situation.

In a very tight race, a Penn State professor has won the Democratic primary for the 12th Congressional district.

Democrat Marc Friedenberg beat Judy Herschel by 223 votes, according to unofficial results Wednesday afternoon.

He said his win in the primary came from work by volunteers — getting results in places they put the effort.

Now, he has his eye on the general election where he will face Republican incumbent Tom Marino.

Marino beat challenger Doug McLinko, winning 67 percent of the vote.

(Harrisburg) -- Pennsylvania's drug overdose rate is more than twice the national average.

The opioid crisis is a focal point in the primary elections for the 12th Congressional District, which includes Centre, Mifflin, Clinton and Potter counties.

Bradford County Commissioner Doug McLinko is challenging GOP incumbent Tom Marino in Tuesday's primary.

He said Marino just isn't working for the people of the district.
