You’re listening to WPSU’s Health Minute, a collaboration with Penn State’s College of Nursing.
National HIV Testing Day is this Sunday. It’s a time to raise awareness about the importance of HIV testing, early diagnosis, and treatment.
One in 7 Americans living with HIV is unaware of their HIV status. Early diagnosis allows for earlier connection to care. By strictly adhering to treatment, HIV viral load can become so low that a test cannot detect the virus. This is known as an “undetectable viral load.”
Overwhelming evidence shows that Undetectable equals Un-transmittable, or U=U. You can fight HIV with prevention, testing, and treatment.
