WPSU’s Health Minute is a collaboration with Penn State’s College of Nursing.
Many people are working or attending school from home during the pandemic. Sitting for extended periods of time in spaces that aren’t designed for office work can lead to pain in the neck, shoulders, and back.
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons stresses the importance of choosing a chair that will support your back. When sitting, your lower back should be in a slightly arched position, with your head and shoulders in an erect position. Make sure your work surface is at a height and proximity that will discourage leaning forward. Be sure to take frequent breaks to stretch, walk, or exercise.
