Penn State is telling most of its employees and staff to plan to work from home for the rest of the semester.

The university had already directed faculty and staff to begin working remotely as part of efforts to stem the spread of the coronavirus. That decision came in light of Gov. Tom Wolf’s March 19 order that businesses that aren’t life-sustaining close.

The university notes that some employees will have to continue to work on campus. That includes staff who provide support for students who are still on campus, do certain lab work and care for animals.

Spring semester classes end May 1, with finals running through May 8.

The announcement by the university comes as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pennsylvania has increased to 1,127. That includes eight cases in Centre County and two in Clearfield County.
