Sex trafficking; they call it the new American slavery. It’s been reported in all 50 states, and whether we acknowledge it or not, it’s happening right under our noses. Truck stops are one of the most common places for sex trafficking, especially of minors. Today, thanks to the nonprofit group, Truckers Against Trafficking, big rig drivers are mobilizing to fight the problem. And filmmaker Pearl Gluck is bringing that story to the public’s attention in her first feature-length narrative film, The Turn Out, which is based on two years of documentary research and the stories of real sex trafficking victims. An award-winning short and documentary filmmaker, Gluck teaches screenwriting, directing and producing in Penn State’s College of Communications.
The Turn Out is screening at The State Theatre in State College Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. Tickets are free and donations will benefit Survivor’s Ink and the Freeman Project.
