On Thursday, Penn State student governments hosted their annual “Night of Remembrance” to honor students who died during the 2021-2022 academic year. The event recognizes students across all Penn State campuses.

Students, family members and loved ones gathered on the steps of Old Main to participate in a candlelight vigil with a moment of silence and a performance from Penn State students of ‘In Remembrance’ by Eleanor Daley.

During the 2021-2022 academic year, 21 Penn State students passed away.

Erin Boas is a fourth-year student at Penn State and also a member of the University Park Undergraduate Association. She said the organization lost a member this year.

“One of our first-year council members, Grant McDermott, passed earlier this year. So, it hit our community really closely. We also saw the impact that has hit the rest of the community as well,” Boas said.

For those who could not attend, a livestream recording is available for viewing on UPUA’s Facebook page.
