WPSU’s Health Minute is a collaboration with Penn State’s Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing.
Someone commits a rape on an American college campus every 21 hours. One in six women have been the victim of an attempted or completed rape. According to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network only about half of sexual assaults in the U.S. are reported to police.
Behind each of these numbers is a person for whom the physical and emotional effects of violence can be traumatic and long-lasting. All universities and colleges have resources for rape victims. At Penn State, students are encouraged to report sexual assaults to the Office of Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response or the University's Title IX coordinator.
In an emergency, call 911 or local campus police.
