Senate hopeful John Fetterman spoke with the Penn State Democrats on the University Park campus last night. Fetterman is facing Joe Sestak and Katie McGinty in the upcoming primary.
During his speech, Fetterman spoke about combating wealth disparity, including supporting a minimum wage increase to $15.
He invited students to join him after for a beer at the Rathskellar, a bar in downtown State College.
“That’s just how I would want a candidate to engage me, so that’s pretty much our approach is how I would want to be engaged and that’s what we do. We’re accessible, we’re straightforward, and we’re honest,” he said.
Student Luis Rolfo, communications director of the Penn State Democrats, said the event showed how different Fetterman was from other politicians. Rolfo said, “It’s very rare to see a Harvard educated individual wearing a Walmart shirt, I have that same shirt! It’s a great shirt. And I’m really happy he’s willing to get down and talk to people on a one-on-one basis over a beer.”
Fetterman was also joined by Josh Shapiro, who is running for Attorney General in Pennsylvania.
