Bright green balloons decorated tables in the HUB-Robeson Center at the Stand for State launch event. Tables full of activities and information promoted the new bystander intervention initiative. The project is meant to prevent sexual assault and relationship violence at Penn State.
For the past two years, Stand for State coordinator Katie Tenny has been leading a task force on bystander intervention.
“Really simply it’s just somebody stepping in if they see a concerning situation in some way," Tenny said. "So we will be offering programs for students to learn about how to do that safely and effectively.”
Stand for State has already done trainings with some faculty and students and plans to do more in upcoming semesters.
The launch will continue to roll out at Penn State campuses across the state this week.
