Penn State University Park Students held a candlelight vigil Tuesday night to honor victims of terror attacks around the world this past weekend.
Red, white and blue beams of light shone upon Penn State’s Old Main building as the community held candles and stood in solidarity with victims of attacks in Paris, Beirut, Baghdad, Russia, Mexico, and Japan. Several students spoke to the large crowd of about 200 on why it’s important to stand together for international peace. Aya Bseiso, a Muslim student from Palestine, told the crowd “terrorism has no religion”.
“My heart goes out to all of those in Paris, to all of those in Nigeria to all of those in Syria and Iraq who are facing unimaginable violence," Bseiso said. "I’m so glad to be a part of a community that manages to come together and unite to show solidarity in peace and cooperation and not violence.”
The event concluded with a 25-minute open mic that served as a forum for students to talk about the recent events.
