New Orleans rapper Curren$y's new album, Cathedral, is out now.

Rapper Curren$y may be a stoner but he's far from a slacker. Over the past decade, the New Orleans native has earned a reputation as one of hip-hop's most prolific potheads, releasing mixtape after mixtape, and EP after EP. The steady stream of music has kept his name buzzing on the 'net, and sating the appetite of an increasingly ravenous fanbase.

His levels of productivity may be why the out-of-the-blue release of his latest project, Cathedral, was not that much of a surprise. However, what does make Cathedral unique is that it is completely produced by Chase N. Cashe, a fellow Big Easy native who's worked on songs for Drake, Lil Wayne, J Cole and Troy Ave, among others.

Cashe and Curren$y are a good team. For proof of their chemistry, look no further than Cathedral's second track, "All Over." On the song, an upright bass loop, acoustic guitar, and vibes provides the gravitas, while the snapping snares Cashe lays on top provide the groove. And Curren$y does not allow the beat to overshadow him, rising to the occasion on the song's second verse. Here the rapper affectionately known as "Spitta" paints the picture of a hustler hell-bent on making a grand exit from the dope game. It's like he's giving listeners the synopsis of a Blaxploitation flick in the form of a rhyme—quite a feat indeed, but all in a hard day's work.

Cathedral is out now.
