Tonight at midnight, having 2 ounces of marijuana and growing it indoors will be legal in Washington D.C. But that’s about all that’s certain.

Federal officials say federal law trumps the voter-approved D.C. law, and if city officials go forward with it, they may be subject to arrest.

Earlier this month, the D.C. city council was forced to cancel a public hearing on regulating marijuana, after the District’s attorney general warned councilors and their staffers would face fines or jail time for holding the hearing.
