Effects of Invasive Plants on Freshwater Aquatic Ecosystems

Effects of Invasive Plants on Freshwater Aquatic Ecosystems

Part of the Centred Outdoors' Speaker Series
RSVPs are appreciated for this event (but not required), so we can estimate attendance to Webster's staff.

Join Angie Spagnoli, Aquatics Resource Systems Specialist (PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources) as she delves into the significant impacts of invasive plants on freshwater aquatic ecosystems. She will highlight the ecological disruptions caused by these non-native species, including biodiversity loss, habitat degradation, and changes to food webs. The presentation will also address the economic and recreational consequences, such as impaired fisheries, obstructed waterways, and high management costs. Finally, Angie will explore human contributions to the problem and emphasize the importance of preventative measures, active management, and public awareness in safeguarding our freshwater ecosystems for future generations.
