Dance Masterclass Sundays: Mojah by Aquila Kikora Franklin
Taking place once a month on Sunday afternoon from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Tempest Studio, 140 Kelly Alley in State College, each class will feature a different style of dance and dancer-teacher. The first masterclass on Sunday Jan. 21 is Mojah by Aquila Kikora Franklin. Kikora is an award-winning dancer, choreographer, and community-engaged artist. Her professional career includes performing and teaching in Linz, Austria, Grahamstown, South Africa, Dakar, Senegal, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and throughout China, Europe, and the United States. Mojah is a blend of modern, jazz, and West African movement that come together to create a unique dance form. The class will include focused breathing and stretching, upbeat, expressive movement, and moments for meditation and reflection. No previous experience is necessary. VanDance’s home in downtown State College, Tempest Studios, 140 Kelly Alley is under the Fraser Street parking garage and around the corner from Elixr coffee roasters. The cost is $70 for all four master classes, or $20 per single class.
