Politicians, business leaders and Centre County officials came together Tuesday to celebrate a $35 million federal transportation grant that will go toward the Interstate 80 and 99 interchange project.

PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards said the federal money will be the catalyst to get the entire project moving forward.

“It is not often that we get tens of millions of dollars in federal funds to help us with a major project," Richards said. "That’s exactly what we’re celebrating here today.”

A 2nd Amendment rally drew several hundred people to the Grice Gun Shop in Clearfield Saturday.

“Good morning 2nd Amendment supporters.”

That was Tom Grice greeting the crowd. Grice has been holding the 2nd Amendment rally for at least five or six years. He said this year was the largest turnout yet.

“I think people understand now that it’s really under attack, more than ever, and they want to know what to do, they want to come get information, they want to learn,” Grice said.

U.S. Representative Glenn G.T. Thompson says when he drives past the exit where Interstates 80 and 99 meet outside of Bellefonte, traffic can be backed up onto I-80.

A new interchange, Thompson said, will complete the I-99 corridor.

“In the end, if we get this thing done, we’re going to help increase safety," Thompson said. "I think we will attract new businesses to the region through the corridor and we’re going to promote tourism.”

Candidates for the 5th Congressional District met Monday night at the WPSU studios in their only televised debate before next Tuesday’s election. The two candidates agreed on very little in the wide range of topics they covered during the hour-long debate.

The mid-term election is November 4th. Three-term Republican incumbent Glenn Thompson, and Democratic challenger Kerith Strano Taylor, face off in the race for the 5th Congressional district. We want you to know who the candidates are, what they stand for, and what they’ve accomplished. This week we hear from Rep. Glenn Thompson. Next week, we'll spend the half-hour with Strano Taylor.
