WAR GAMES: Remote Warfare, Virtual Veterans, and the Ethics of Violence

WAR GAMES: Remote Warfare, Virtual Veterans, and the Ethics of Violence

Penn State Altoona will host "WAR GAMES: Remote Warfare, Virtual Veterans, and the Ethics of Violence" from 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, in the Titelman Study of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. The event will be led by Bill White, professor of communication arts and sciences at Penn State Altoona. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

Students in White's COMM 190: Games & Interactive Media course will offer playable demos of their work-in-progress designs inspired by the Common Read as well as actual play accounts and community reports from games related to what one media studies scholar has called the “MIME-NET” (military-industrial-media-entertainment network). This event showcases game design and criticism as a humanistic enterprise serving as a key way of knowing in a gamified society.

The event is part of Penn State Altoona’s Common Read initiative.
