Sustainability Showcase Keynote: Indigenous Chef Lorinda John
Chef Lorinda John, an Indigenous chef and artist based near Buffalo, NY, will be coming to Penn State the week of Nov. 10-13 for a talk, cooking demonstrations, and more. Chef Lorinda is a Seneca descendant, Indigenous food sovereignty leader and entrepreneur. Raised in Cattaraugus Territory near Buffalo, NY, she now resides in Gowanda, NY, where she is completing her graduate studies at Buffalo State University. Chef Lorinda specializes in traditional cooking methods and cedar hoop artwork. Her work helps to celebrate Indigenous culture and also advocates for survivors of domestic violence. Her Penn State visit is jointly hosted by the Indigenous People’s Student Association (IPSA), Paul Robeson Cultural Center, Ross Student Farm, and Sustain Penn State.
Her keynote talk: “Reclaiming Roots: Indigenous Food Sustainability” will be in-person on the Penn State University Park campus in 132 HUB on Tuesday, November 11, at 4 p.m. (EST).
