Sunday Painters
This exhibtion aims to share reseach around children’s process and agency as artist in a white cube space that is not often given to children to actualize their artwork. While celebrating art based and video ethnographic research by Eric Anthony Berdis (Phd Student Art Education) with two students Rowan (age 6, turning 7 in September) and Isla (age 9). The exhibiton showcased artwork created by Rowan and Isla from January to August of 2025 as the relationship continue past the Spring 2025 Video Ethnograpy class. Artwork created and the exhibiton process came from an emergent curriculum that centers children’s agency and process the making. Themes of children’s media, girlhood, and animals and safe place emerged in the 9 month process of making work together. Artwork was not only created by Rowan and Isla, but the exhibtion will also be mounted by them with Eric as Gallery Assistant.
