SULA Chapter 2: A Coming of Age Exploration of Black Girlhood & Community Kennedy René Ferguson Solo Exhibition
This exhibition builds upon my recent solo exhibition, SULA, which debuted during the winter break. SULA draws its title and inspiration from Toni Morrison’s novel of the same name, which explores the enduring friendship between two Black women from childhood to adulthood. The exhibition delves into the often-overlooked narratives of Black girlhood and community, offering a deeply personal perspective that will spark deep reflection and dialogue. Through an immersive, home-like environment, the exhibition features a collection of portraits of myself, my friends, and my family. Recurring themes of kinship and identity anchor the work, with SULA serving as both a love letter to my loved ones and a visual chronicle of my coming-of-age journey.
