The Altoona Symphony Orchestra invites you to experience a unique fusion of sound and visual art at Sonic Pictures, a concert celebrating the intersection of music and imagery. This extraordinary performance will take place on April 12, 2025, at the Historic Mishler Theatre in Altoona at 7:30PM.

The concert features Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, a beloved masterpiece that paints vivid musical pictures of an artist’s journey through an art gallery. To enhance this experience, original artwork by Blair County artist Joe Servello will be displayed and projected alongside the orchestra’s performance, creating an immersive experience that blends visual art with the music’s evocative power.

In addition to Mussorgsky’s iconic work, the program will include Kevin Puts’ Marimba Concerto, performed by guest artist Lee Hinkle, and Carolyn Donaldson will narrate Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, bringing the words of Lincoln to life in a powerful and poignant interpretation. Before the concert, Timothy Melbinger will present an insightful pre-concert talk, providing audiences with context and background on the music and the collaboration between sound and visual art.
