Rhythm and Blues with CODE: BLUE and Bar-B-Q @ Colerain Forges Mansion
Decades ago, the end of summer was celebrated at Colerain with a BBQ and Louise McMann's famous cookies. This summer we're reviving that tradition with our own twist and a celebration of music. The day begins at 1:00pm with a reprise of our popular used vinyl sale, curated from the collections of local music nerds.
At 3:00, Code: Blue will perform in front of the mansion. BYOB (B for beverage, beer, blanket, bench, other favorite backyard seating)
Then join us in the great room at 5:00 as Jerry Zolten presents Historic African American Performance Clips Captured on Film: From Bessie Smith, Billy Holiday, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe to Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, and the Flamingos. Seating is limited, so please reserve your seat.
About Code: Blue
Code: Blue debuted as a band in the early 1990s, and their high caliber musicianship and unique mix of soul and blues, covers and originals, soon established them as a stand-out State College band. In 1993, Code: Blue released the album Stages/Then and Now, further opening the door to regional touring and shared billing with, among others, Mark Ross’s Queen Bee and the Blue Hornet Band at the Chameleon in Lancaster, Otis Clay and Billy Price at the Decade in Pittsburgh, and the Philadelphia River Blues Festival with blues legends including Otis Rush, Charles Brown, Junior Wells, and Robert Cray.
Recently, core members of Code: Blue reunited to continue their tradition of delivering blues, soul, and R&B at an exceptional and exciting level of musicianship. Code: Blue features vocalists Terri Parker and Rene Oakman; lead guitarist Chris Younken; keyboardist Barbara Neumuller; acoustic guitarist Jerry Zolten; a rhythm section with Harry Werner on bass and John Raiser on drums; and frequent guest, harmonica player Richard Sleigh.
