Master Gardeners Host Home Gardening School March 22

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA—Penn State Extension Centre County Master Gardeners present World Wonders to Backyard Bliss: Planting Garden Inspiration March 22 (8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.) at Penn State’s Forest Resources Building, Park Avenue and Bigler Road, State College.

Amateur and experienced plant lovers can rub elbows, swap stories, and learn from Central PA gardeners at this year’s Home Gardening School. Keynote speaker Heather Andrews, two-time award winner of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Garden of Distinction, will kick off the day with a presentation on her travels to every continent (except Antarctica) and she will suggest how you can incorporate a worldview into your own backyard.

The rest of the day you can choose from topics such as creating a cut-flower garden, vegetable plot, and how to incorporate berries into the mix. Learn from the best on how to turn your yard into a natural haven for birds, butterflies and bees, select often overlooked native plants, and gain skill in identifying trees and shrubs in your neighborhood and beyond. You will learn simple ways to conserve birds and their habitats while building community, discover the beneficial insects you want to encourage to nest and shelter in your gardens, and browse learning tables on bonsai, birdhouse gourds, and gardening gear.

The cost is $60 and includes lunch. Pre-registration by March 16 is required for this in-person event.
