Nittany Valley Writers' Network Meeting
Nittany Valley Writers' Network Meeting
The Nittany Valley Writers’ Network will meet on Tuesday, March 10 in the Schlow Library Community Room, 211 S. Allen St., State College. Vicka Kharitonova Pevzner, author of “Beyond the Birch Trees: Short Tales of Growing Up Soviet,” will discuss writing her book, finding a publisher, and how she promoted it. In 35 fast-paced vignettes, the book chronicles her life as a strong-willed girl in a secular Jewish family, taking readers from Moscow to distant Siberia, to the rugged Tien Shan mountain ranges, and Crimean vacation towns.
She says, “Imagine living in a place where almost anything fun – books, films, parties, music – can only be obtained through secretive connections and with the risk of arrest or worse. This is the Soviet Union in its final decades.”
Doors open at 6:00 pm. The meeting begins at 6:30, followed by a book signing. The event is free and open to the public. The Nittany Valley Writers' Network is a sharing, supportive community linking local writers of all genres and levels of experience.
