Lecture about the history of Odissi dance
Bijayini Satpathy will map the journey of the Odissi dance form from, the pre-Christian period to the global dance that Odissi is today, addressing the key milestones on the way of its evolution.
Odissi, noted for its Tribhangi-Tribend standing body position, infinite curved patterns, and lyrical grace, is one of the eight classical dances of India. Evidence in cave and temple reliefs in Odissi's birth province Orissa suggest that dance has existed in this land for almost 2,000 years.
