Hometown Voices: Nicole Miyashiro & Mary Rohrer-Dann
On Sunday, April 27, at 3pm, Hometown Voices will feature two writers—Nicole Miyashiro and Mary Rohrer-Dann—at Tempest Studios (140 Kelly Alley).
Nicole Miyashiro (she/her) writes short forms and engages with visual art for prompts, play, peace, and pleasure. She seeks to share warmth and connection with her crafts and enjoys collaborating in community and interdisciplinary art projects. She is grateful for support from the PA Center for the Book – Penn State University Libraries, the Can Serrat International Art Residency, Tempest Studios, and Vermont Studio Center. Her work appears in Milk Press, Bi Women Quarterly, CALYX, The Hudson Review, the Nasty Women Poets anthology (Lost Horse Press), and elsewhere. nicolemiyashiro.com
Mary Rohrer-Dann, a two-time Pushcart nominee, has published poetry and fiction in various venues. Her most recent book is Accidents of Being: Poems from a Philadelphia Neighborhood. Other books include La Scaffetta: Poems from the Foundling Drawer and Taking the Long Way Home. A fourth poetry collection & one of flash fiction are currently seeking homes. A teaching professor at Penn State in a former life, she is delighted to be one of Tempest’s five resident poets, and to have displayed her artwork in Tempest’s gallery through November 2024. She loves collaborating with Cynthia, who masterfully adapted two of her poetry collections to stage and produced by Tempest. She dedicates this reading to her beloved late husband who championed all of her creative work, Michael Dann.
See the attached flyer and please share with your communities. All readings are free and open to the public. Parking in the Fraser Deck (located just above Tempest Studios) is free on Sundays. Come enjoy local writers and support your creative community!
