Celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day Read Aloud
Monday, October 10 – Celebrate Indigenous Books and join us as we embark on a Read-Aloud Challenge!
LitWorld and World Read-Aloud Day celebrate the success and joy of reading aloud. Come join us we begin our monthly challenge of Reading Aloud as we also look at Banned and Challenged Books.
In 2021, 5 books from indigenous authors were banned in Central York School District in PA. And while that ban was reversed, this trend towards banning books of indigenous authors continues. We’ll be reading from the 5 books that made that list in PA:
Fry Bread: A Native American story by Kevin Maillard
The People Shall Continue by Simon Ortiz
An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States by Roxanne Dunbar Ortiz
Indian No More by Charlene Willing Mcmanis and Traci Sorrell
We Are Grateful by Traci Sorrell and Frane Lessac
