This class takes place over the course of two sessions. The first session will be two hours long while the second will only be one hour long.

Combine high-technology with traditional printing methods to make your own hand-printed art. In this two-part class you will learn traditional block printing, using a stamp you laser engrave from a digital image.

In part one, you will learn how to prepare an image in Adobe Illustrator to make a block stamp. Next, you will learn how to engrave the image onto an acrylic sheet using the Trotec Laser. Finally, students will permanently mount their stamp to a wood block.

In part two, students will learn a traditional hand block-printing technique, by hand-inking and pressing their stamps onto paper using a baren.

To get the most out of this course, it is recommended students have prior clearance on the Trotec laser,
and some familiarity with Adobe Illustrator.

Students are encouraged bring their own laser-compatible
Adobe Illustrator file (.ai or .svg) on a flash drive to create a stamp –*please note -image will be scaled to create a 5 x 7 inch stamp.
