14th Annual Huntingdon County Juneteenth Celebration
The Huntingdon County Juneteenth Celebration Committee is excited to announce that the 14th Annual Huntingdon County Juneteenth celebration will take place from noon to 6 PM on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Portstown Park in Huntingdon. As with the original Juneteenth celebration, the afternoon is designed to be a time for family and friends to come together to socialize with each other and to forge new relationships. In addition to live musical entertainment there will also be raffles for cash prizes and collectibles along with various vendor booths for food, crafts, and information. And, people are encouraged to get up and dance to the music. Juneteenth celebrates the day, June 19, 1865, when slaves in Texas were informed of their freedom more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. What started as a Texas holiday spread over the years throughout the country. President Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday in 2021. And in 2019 former Governor Wolf signed legislation designating June 19 as Juneteenth National Freedom Day in Pennsylvania.
