Most of tonight’s broadcast features a very talented and funny West Virginia band that has performed many times over the past ten or so years in Central PA, and twice as part of the Acoustic Brew Concert Series in performance at the WPSU studios. They were a very new band in 2007 the first time. The concert you are about to hear was recorded just two months ago on April 15.
The last 25 minutes of the broadcast featured Boston-based Mark Erelli. Erelli has toured arenas with Lori McKenna, opened for Faith Hill and Tim McGraw,” played at the Grand Ole Opry and on Good Morning America, and played at the Royal Albert Hall with Josh Ritter.
The Folk Show Road Show captured this concert afterhours at one of State College’s hangouts for science geeks, poets, musicians and free-thinkers: Webster’s Bookstore and Café. A fitting setting for a sing-songwriter with masters degree in evolutionary biology, and a one of the most literate song writers around. If you enjoy what you hear, stayed tuned for a future episode of the Road Show featuring Mark Erelli.
Thanks to Jim Thorn for live sound reinforcement for the Hillybilly Gypsies concert, and Adam McMillen for sound recording and editing of both concerts.
