Our series, Beyond the Classroom, focuses on exceptional students taking educational experiences far beyond their university classes.

Today we talk with Neha Gupta. The Penn State freshman was recently awarded the International Children’s Peace Prize for her work with orphans and needy children. Gupta is the first American ever to win this award. The 18-year-old created the foundation “Empower Orphans” when she was just 9 years old. WPSU’s Emily Reddy talked with Gupta by phone about her charitable work…. She recently got a concussion and she’s recovering at home in the Philadelphia area.
