A veteran Democrat in the Pennsylvania Senate is dropping out of the race for another term.

Cambria County Sen. John Wozniak announced Wednesday he was withdrawing from the November election.

The opening comes as Republicans hold a 31 to 19 majority in the Senate.

The 60-year-old Wozniak was first elected to the state House in 1980 and is finishing his fifth four-year term in the Senate.

He's the ranking Democrat on the Transportation Committee.
